The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) notes with regret a letter issued on 15 November 2019 to its varied
stakeholders, with above-referred caption – but also intent on communicating an annual planned closure of the
Lobatse plant/abattoir in November 2019.

The BMC would like to retract the letter immediately, and in place tender an apology to all stakeholders for
inconveniences caused.

As it is common practice, exhaustive consultations with supplier-stakeholders often precedes any decision by
the BMC to start/end production for the year – and therefore 2019 production will NOT be an exception.
Farmers are therefore urged to continue supplying the BMC Lobatse plant undeterred, and until such is
advised otherwise.

Also, BMC is working around the clock to address delayed-payments’ concerns currently being experienced
by the farmers/suppliers. BMC is hopeful that this will be resolved soon.
