BMC buys ready to slaughter cattle weighing 160kg and above. BMC Lobatse also receives any other stock/cattle in its abattoir for direct slaughter from 0 tooth- 8 teeth/in-finity (aged) but animals that are 0 tooth-2 teeth (0-30months) weighing more than 160kg carcass mass (CDM) are bought at a higher price as prime grade. These prices are at P45/kg with grading) for EU markets whereas Other Markets fetch a price of P31/kg (without grading). BMC Lobatse receives cattle only from zones 10, 11, 11,12 and 13.
Animals should be from an EU registered holding (DVS) with a residence period of 40/90 days. Animals should be individually identified through the Botswana Animal Identification and Traceability system (BAITS).
Farmer should produce records to demonstrate management of treatments and withdrawal periods of medication. Animals should be healthy and comply with DVS vaccination protocols.
The measles penalty has now been reduced from P11/kg to P1/kg on ALL EU cattle at BMC Lobatse. Animals inspected to have less than 10 cysts in the muscle will have its meat detained for 14 days before it can be consumed and as such the animal will be
paid Other Markets price and it will not be eligible to be sold to EU Markets.
BMC has mandated itself to help farmers with free transportation but only for Other Markets suppliers. We only collect a minimum of twenty (20) animals from all selected cattle collection point
• Farmers are now paid directly into their bank accounts thus required to bring, copy of ID/company certificate.
• Evidence to confirm banking details, either confirmation letter or bank statements.
• Any source of document with your account details/confirmation letter.
• For companies, bring your certificate of incorporation BMC’s payment turnaround its 14 days after slaughter.
1.All cattle must bear both producer registered brand and zonal brand of place of origin.
2. That all cattle must be accompanied by livestock movement permit, farmer's declaration form and Police permit from the zone of origin.
3. That all EU eligible cattle delivered to the abattoir must comply with all EU regulations, non-compliant cattle will be
downgraded lower market status at the expense of the producer.
4. All cattle delivered to the abattoir must appear in the livestock movement permit, that is mispemited and substitute animals will render the whole consignment to lower market status.
5. It is the responsibility of the producer to ensure that all animals loaded are clean to avoid cross contamination during slaughter.
6. In the event transport is shared among producers, animals should be distinctively marked with paint for easy sorting at offloading.
7. That the responsibility for transportation (booking and transport cost) is entirely that of the producer for EU cattle.
8. Cancellation of quota should be notified to the commission not less than 3 (three) days before scheduled delivery date.
9. The cattle concerned remain the property of the lawful owner until slaughtered by the commission.
10. Please note that quota applications are not for arrivals on Friday and Saturday unless advised otherwise.
11. BMC will only buy cattle with appropriate bolus identification.
